Week 1 Blog Post: Create an atmospheric Youtube video of yourself reading and commenting on one of the war poems we have been exploring

This week I have created a video reading Anthem of Doomed Youth and commenting on the poem. Please follow the link to view my video:

Extremely thorough analysis of the play! It was interesting to see this blog post as a video, particularly with a poem quite so evocative as Anthem For Doomed Youth. Despite the fact that this medium may have been harder than writing a blog post there was still significant depth in the discussion of the poem. Exploring the techniques, language and imagery used by Owen would grant any viewer a clear understanding of the poem. Awesome blog post!

I appreciate the fact that you have presented your Blog entry through the medium of a short video, your delivery and articulation throughout your reading and grasp of Wilfred Owen’s style is spot on. Your discussion displays your knowledge with regards to the tone, themes, and message that Owen’s is portraying in ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’. I am particularly fond of Owen’s work particularly Dulce et Decorum est. He is one of my favourite war poets because of his ability to capture the cruel realities of the battlefield. He also infuses his work with ideas that question longstanding rhetoric and propaganda. He questions the notion that there is honour in death, especially if one is dying for one’s country, the morality of killing and the hypocrisy of murder for peace. Most importantly I believe that Owen really protests the nature of war highlighting the experiences of the young men who die for the ‘ideals’ of nations. Owen’s experience is firsthand, he died in the war he fought in a week before the armistice. It is the rawness of his experience which I think could have been incorporated more into your discussion.
All in all, your video is excellent analysis and reading. I’m really looking forward to keeping up to date with the rest of your posts.
Signing off,
